Corona just lost my job / JSA and childcare questions
I worked in the events sector was currently on a fixed term contract till end of year but just been given a weeks notice because all the events I was working on now cancelled. I have a few questions benefits wise as worried I am going to be out of work for a long time now,
1. At what point can I put in claim for JSA can I do it now or does it have to be after notice period ?
2. Me and my partner were claiming 30hrs free child care I understand if its only 1 working it goes down to 15hrs, my partner was asked to reconfirm eligibility start of March which was done and went through fine saying its in place till June, I guess I have to tell them I am not not working and they will revert me to 15hrs or will my 30hrs elgibility remain till then next time they want to reconfirm in June ?
thanks

1. see https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-style-jobseekers-allowance. I think if you are in a paid notice period you are still employed and therefore not entitled to receive JSA. may be worth ringing JobCentre to ask if you can make an advance claim (although I expect their lines are very busy at the moment).
2. You should inform your local authority but there is a run on period so entitlement will not end immediately. I think it will continue up to the current end date of June but I.m not sure about this.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Thanks, you were correct the 30hrs free runs till next review, luckily I reconfirmed eligiblty last week so the 30hrs will run till mid June. Will give the job centre a call on the JSA.
Worrying times, they got rid of me (last in first out) and others been made part time now, not sure company will survive the shut down.0 -
