Depends on car, probably coded to the ECU and if you don't divorce it from current ECU will be no more use than a brick in the next car.Danny_G said:Cheers everyone.
How about the stereo, which is a default car stereo, can we remove and keep that too ?
On a serious note, I would not take anything that is fitted or boiled to the car, spare wheel you may get away with.Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0 -
You can safely remove any loose item that's within the car. Spare wheel, jack, anything in glovebox etc. - they were never included in the insurance.
I would not remove the factory stereo - you say "default car stereo", do you mean a generic aftermarket one? In which case that should be fine.0 -
When our car was written off my husband asked the insurance company if they would pay more because he had a tow bar fitted. They said "no but take it off if you want. Take anything you want as the car is being scrapped."
He took tow bar and spare wheel.

Unless it's CatA, then "taking things off" may well affect the sale value as it goes through the salvage auctions.sheramber said:When our car was written off my husband asked the insurance company if they would pay more because he had a tow bar fitted. The insurance company aren't going to be impressed if you strip the car of every part and give them back an empty body-shell.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
