We are in the process of buying a 2 bedroom detached chalet bungalow and need to add a 3rd bedroom. I have been looking into a dormer extension on either side of the 2nd bedroom to split it into two bedrooms of equal size. Can anyone advise a ballpark figure for doing this please? Would it be much cheaper than building a new bedroom as a side extension on the ground floor, which would require new walls, foundations and a roof?
Thanks
Andy

My son has just bought a four bed dormer which was converted from a two bed in the late 1970's. In his road there are 2, 3 and 4 bed all built as two bed in the 1960's. Both upstairs bedrooms have an ensuite.
The vendor showed him the plans for the alteration so he knew where pipes/wiring etc went. She also had plans there for a three bed. She said the difference in cost for the three bed verses the four bed was only £270, not sure what that would be in today's money but to her it was a no brainer.Love living in a village in the country side0 -

I don't know what the house looks like, but I'm not the biggest fan of dormers and so don't have much experience. In theory, the conversion should be cheaper.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
