Insurance Claim - Cancel Flight or Wait

Hello,
Flights booked Gatwick to US return 4-18 April with Norwegian. Insurer has confirmed i'm covered for FCO travel ban. Norwegian not yet cancelled the flight. Insurer said cancel flight now (non-refundable) and submit claim with evidence of cancellation.
Problem is - I think Norwegian will cancel the flight at some point in next two weeks.
What if I cancel the flight now, make a claim, and then Norwegian cancel the actual flight before insurer evaluates my claim? Will insurer get nasty and reject the claim - as if Norwegian cancel, then they will refund me. Insurer may accuse me of not waiting and seeing/giving airline long enough.
In this instance, I'm wondering if I should wait until closer to the flight, to minimise risk of this happening? Or will it make no difference to the claim as at the time of claim submission flight is still going?
Appreciate any help.
Thank you

Did you get the insurance advice in writing? I'm surprised, as I agree that most insurers expect you to seek a refund at the appropriate time (perhaps within 2 weeks of the departure.)
There is nothing to be gained by cancelling early, so tell the insurer what you will do, and if the flight goes ahead you can cancel a few days before.0
