The seriousness of Covid-19 is affecting the travel plans of so many people. Would it not be appropriate for Travelodge, to not only waive the fee for moving your date, but to also allow customers to move to a different date at a different lodge. Currently they insist travellers can only move dates at the same lodge. For those booked at airport lodges, it doesn't look if they will have much chance of going somewhere soon. Or is Travelodge happy to keep the money with no thought of their customers??

Or are you happy for companies to shoulder the entire burden of the situation (which is not in any way their fault) whilst you take none whatsoever?

Travelodge (and Premier Inn) offer flexible rates, or cheaper saver rates. They have already been generous to allow alterations to saver rates. If you wanted full flexibility, you should have booked their designated flexible rate. The travel industry is taking a massive hit at the moment and this could lead to thousands of job losses - please be mindful of that.

I agree but wouldn't the hotel cost be covered by travel insurance if OP's whole holiday was cancelled?

Some hotel chains are being a lot more proactive than others in waiving cancellation/change fees. The likes of Holiday Inn and Hilton are much more ahead of this than Travelodge.
Currently I only have one TL booking in the next few weeks and that is cheap enough to write off but there will be others who will have more booked.

I'll be claiming from my travel insurer for pre flight hotel (f I can be bothered), the aspect of the trip not covered by the Abta/Atol for the package.

If hoteliers are letting you date change without charge when you could have purchased flexi rate then I think they are being pretty reasonable.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Flexible rates are available I agreed, but they are not per booking they are per night. Now the Government are proposing a 12-month business rate holiday, such companies stand to gain even more. Same old story, take the money but as far as goodwill is concerned, non-existent. We are now also starting to see a number of businesses using the Covid-19 as an excuse that they have to close. Laura Ashley were already on the rocks, and the Carphone reduction was only a matter of time. As far as Travelodge are concerned hopefully they will have customers come back to them.

The problem is that we don't know how long this is going to last for so when do you rebook for?
