hi all
i need to repaint an exterior wall that has lightly textured rendering. i have removed some long standing ivy but the brown residue of it won't come off. i don't want to scrape too hard for fear of damaging the render. i've tried hot water and a plastic scouring pad but no joy.
does anyone have experince of this please?
many thanks.

Have you only recently removed the ivy? If so, then leave the residue to die back/dry out - should be easier to brush off then.Any small bits should then be covered by the new paint.1

Our neighbour had ivy growing up his walls, you can still see those brown root bits 10 years after he cut it all down. Brush back as much as you can and hope the paint covers the rest. It's very unlikely you'll ever remove it all.

When we moved into our house 29 years ago there was ivy growing up the wall. We used the back of a spade and scraped it off, dug the plant out by the roots. To this day there are still bits of it on the surface of the bricks. Awful stuff. We used all sorts to try to remove it. Over time most of it went.0
