Credit Card for poor or no credit

Options
Hi all,
I was having trouble getting credit for last three or four years. I couldn't use CapitalOne as previous bad experience with them, and didn't have good enough credit for Barclaycard Initial, and got rejected by Aqua.

Anyway, in June this year I got a Vanquis Visa Card with £250 limit.

Let me stress, before I get hammered, the interest rate on this card is obscene (34.9%), there is no online banking and telephone number is 0870!!!

But as I work full time and earn a decent wage I have simply spent close to £250 on it and paid it off in full each month by calling up on payday and using the automated banking service.

MY Credit limit has just been doubled to £500, which again isn't superb but it shows I'm steadily making progress. My bank (A&L) have also just upgraded my Electron to a Visa Debit, so although this is probably unrelated, it still feels good.

So, just to pass on really, if you're struggling to get any credit then Vanquis might be able to help. (Other options for poor credit are Capital One, Aqua Card and Barclaycard Initial)

For info, my credit score is not very good:
Experian 614
CallCredit 446
Equifax 426

Hope this is of use to someone who is where I was five months ago

    Hello,

Glad to hear your making progress. By the way the fact your have been upgraded from Electron to Visa is a large step although on the face of it you wont notice a big change.

There is a subtle difference between the way Electron works to Visa and you will find no CCJ, BR, Youngster or Bad Credit candidate with a Visa Debit in the land.....
  • cheers Zebedee69, I assumed it was because of how I managed my current account?
If it takes into consideration external factors -ie credit score, then I'm well happy & heading in right direction!
