ATM failed and took my card and money! HELP!!

Hi all, I visited my local Tesco cash machine to draw out a sum of £260 to go pay my mechanic and get my car back. Put my card in and did the usual pin and select amount of cash. The machine started to count the money then suddenly glitched, switched off and displayed out of service message. So no card back and no cash. I went inside Tesco to complain but was told it's a RBS machine and has nothing to do with them. I immediately called my bank who advised they will need to do a claim with RBS and this can take up to 13 days to get a response! So here I am, a single father with his last money taken, no car still as I couldn't pay the garage and now I'm borrowing money to pay for 2 buses return tickets a day for my son to attend school and its now over a week and I've just contacted my bank who have advised they are still waiting for RBS to confirm with them. Funny thing is the cash machine was back up running 2 days later so someone had been out to sort it and wouid of seen my card and the discrepancy. At my wits end with it all now I just don't see how a machine can just take my money like that and leave me in this vulnerable financial position. Is there any other process I can do to speed this situation up and get RBS to pull there finger out and get this Sorted! Thanks in advance 🙏

You need to ask your bank to issue you with a new card in the meantime. The timescale for this varies, for example, some Barclays branches and all Metro Bank stores can produce them on the spot. It's too late to help you now, but this is another example of why you should never rely on having just one bank account, but hopefully somebody else will heed the warning.0

If you go into your bank branch with your driving license and passport then you should be able to make a withdrawal while you wait for a replacement card (it is what I have previously done).
As stated, you should ideally hold more than one current account in case of this type of problem...

You should also get a credit card.2

I'm all set then with a Halifax account, Natwest account, Nationwide account and a Halifax credit card.wmb194 said:You should also get a credit card.

It is also advisable to have more than one credit card, just in case it stops working for any reason...deadendwaterfall said:

Nothing you can do to speed it up. It is a link network process.
Would take it that when you said card kept in ATM that they would have ordered a new card.
As someone else said go to a local branch with proof of ID and get cash over the counter. If it has taken all your funds, then ask if they will temporarily refund you while it is investigated. We will do that, but only if customer has no access to funds.
Quite a common thing. Your talking a computer and a lot of mechanical bits... Plenty of scope to go wrong.Life in the slow lane1 -
The OP did not say that they had an RBS / Natwest account. The emergency cash service only works if you are a customer of those banks. They just mentioned that the machine was operated by RBS and did not disclose which at which institution their account was held.sheramber said:2 -
