Holiday cancelled - take refund or the option to rebook at a later date?

I couldn’t find the answer to this question but apologies if this has been covered..
My holiday has been cancelled by the travel company.
Should I accept a refund or take the offer to rebook at a later date? If I take the rebook option, what happens if the travel company goes bust? Would I still get my money back or would I just become a creditor? I assume I’m not covered by ATOL if I choose the rebook option as no holiday exists? Could I claim from my credit card company under Section 75?
My inclination is to take the refund but I may have to pay more for the holiday later.
Thoughts please?

You don't even tell us who the holiday was booked with.0

Also the holiday may be cheaper as travel companies try to restart a travel industry that has been decimated. Take the refundjaybeetoo said:

My flight to New York left this morning, however they have cancelled the return flight due in 6 days, it’s a package holiday with Loveholidays but they are not helping, should I get a refund?

If a refund is being offered - take it.0

Take the refund, the company might not be running next year.0

I've got flights to Tenerife with BA this Saturday. They have offered me a voucher valid for 12 months. I won't be taking it and will wait for them to cancel the flight, which obviously they will be doing. Then I can claim the cost of the hotel from my travel insurance.0

We have flights booked to South Africa at the end of March. The Foreign Office has advised against all but essential travel and the SA government have banned anyone coming from the UK. BA contacted us to say the flight is still scheduled to go but have offered a voucher which is valid for the next 12 months or free to change flights. I really don't want a voucher as I don't know what will happen in the next 12 months and I certainly don't want to book flights for the same reason. How can I get a refund?0

Paul Lewis (Moneybox) says take the money so that’s what I’ll do! Thanks for your thoughts.0

I've had a similar email. It states that my flight to Barbados (part of a BA package) on 24th March is currently due to depart as scheduled but that I could receive a voucher now if I wished. I'm sitting right. If everything remains the same I will travel. If not, I'm expecting a cancellation and refund.0
