Coronavirus 80 year old cancel

Hi
My father is 80 years old with an underlying med condition of asbestosis in his lungs.
I was in hospital for a major operation and he was suppose to visit me after this.
With all the risks on him and coronavirus, i said no as he should be isolated and not traveling.
Both ulsterbus/stenaline and travellodge have immediately refused to refund or even postpone our booking to a later date basically saying it is not there problem.
Do we have any rights. Surely this is just wrong doing at this time to an 80 year old man? Can you help?
He was boating it with my.mum who is also a pensioner from belfast to Glasgow and staying in glasgow Travelodge. Please help.
I am currently in hospital and too ill to phone constantly and argue but this doesnt seem right. Thanks for help

It's sensible he should cancel, but it's correct he's not entitled to a refund unless he made a flexible booking.
Why do you think it's 'surely just wrong'?0 -
No, legally they are entirely correct.vemery01 said:HiMy father is 80 years old with an underlying med condition of asbestosis in his lungs.I was in hospital for a major operation and he was suppose to visit me after this. With all the risks on him and coronavirus, i said no as he should be isolated and not traveling. Both ulsterbus/stenaline and travellodge have immediately refused to refund or even postpone our booking to a later date basically saying it is not there problem.Do we have any rights. The current situation is not the fault of any of the companies you list, just as it is not the fault of your father or yourself.
Why therefore do you expect them to be out of pocket so that your father is not?
If, for some reason they become unable to provide the service he has booked then he will be entitled to a refund. Unless that happens it is entirely up to them whether they want to make a gesture of goodwill or not. Given the enormous hit the travel and hotel industries are going to taking before this is all over, frankly I can't blame them for sticking to the rules.0 -
Travelodge, like many hotel chains, offer two types of booking options that the consumer can freely choose from.Flexible, which allow you to cancel a booking up to noon on the day of arrival without charge, or non-flexible saver rates, which are cheaper but do not allow for cancellations.Unfortunately for them, if they decided to choose the cheaper non-flexible offer, there's nothing they can do if they now decide not to travel, unless the hotel itself closes, or they have travle insurabce that would cover them.Having said that, it appears that in light of the exceptional circumstances Travelodge, like Premier Inn, are now allowing people to amend their saver rate bookings to put them back to a later date, so suggest that if your parents didn't have any insurance they do that rather than just lose their money altogether
