United Airlines Refund Policy

I’m booked to travel to USA with my son on 10th April, booked direct with United.
They won’t refund our fare but have offered a credit to rebook in the future. We paid fare and seat reservations total £728. They are offering a credit to the value of £615!
I’ve tried calling them on their only number in Chicago but the hold time is over 90 minutes! So I hung up. How else can I find out why there is such a difference?

We’re in a similar situation. We had literally boarded our flight to Buenos Aires on Thursday when the captain announced that the Argentinian government had just said that they will not allow us into the country as they were not issuing any more visas. This was confirmed on the foreign office website. I managed to get through to BA yesterday and they promised a credit but the confirmation email didn’t arrive and I’d really prefer a refund.0

Smae with me, unfortunately I think they can do that. Watch out for the phone bill though! Mine was £350!0

I’m going to speak with my travel insurance company tomorrow. We didn’t fly as we would not have been allowed into Argentina. This appeared on Foreign Office website just before we were due to take off:-

Fortunately the FCO has just announced a ban on travel to USA so I should be able to claim on my travel insurance which wouldn’t have been possible if they hadn’t made that announcement.0

But have the airline not given you a refund by way of a credit? what will you claim off your insurance?landrover14 said:Fortunately the FCO has just announced a ban on travel to USA so I should be able to claim on my travel insurance which wouldn’t have been possible if they hadn’t made that announcement.

So far the airline has only offered me a credit of £113 less than I paid them! If they actually refunded the full amount I’d take it but if not I’ll go to my travel insurance company.0
