Hello,

We have had our flights cancelled to New York, we booked direct with BA (inc hotel). They are saying they will offer us a voucher to use for the cost of what we paid.
However, if we wanted to go say in August, and the holiday would be more expensive then we have to pay the difference.

Now we don’t want to do this because, if we wanted to pay August prices we would’ve gone in August and not May.

Are we entitled to a refund? BA are holding onto our money, which means we can’t even go on another holiday. I’d like to think if they’ve cancelled then they should give us our money back? Help!!

That would have been the case Friday, Saturday or even earlier this morning.     We are living in a fast changing environment at the moment.

Now that the FCO have issued a revised travel advisory against all but essential travel to the USA, if you booked a British Airways Holidays package you will now be able to seek a refund rather than a travel voucher.

Contact them again but expect a long call holding wait.
  • Thank you!! I’ll prepare for the long wait

BA is doing everything to avoid giving refunds even when the flight is not operating. Everyone should insist that if there is no flight, they cannot hold onto the funds until this is over, we have no idea how long that will be and frankly BA should not be effectively acting as a bank holding onto deposits for as long as they want

If BA cancel your flight you are legally entitled to a full refund. I'm waiting to hear on a flight I've booked in May, if they cancel the flight I'll demand my money back. If I get the run around I'll leave it in the hands of my credit card provider, as they are jointly liable.

I've got flights booked with British Airways from Gatwick to Dubrovnik in May. It seems very unlikely this holiday will go ahead. I don't mind a voucher but a refund would be better.

Still a bit early at this stage so will sit tight and see what happens.

i have recently had my holiday to canada (flight & hotel package) cancelled by ba and they emailed me saying it will be refunded in 7 days - i had previously selected the voucher option but the email said that i would now get a refund rather than a voucher if i had previously requested a voucher - i assume that as i requested the voucher prior to the ban on travel to canada it was a fair alternative to loosing the holiday however since the flight was subsequently cancelled (they would not have been permitted to board me as a uk citizen) that they would be obliged to refund rather than offer a voucher
