Hope you don't mind me resurrecting this thread! I've a lovely grey pair of trousers from Dotty P's that are Dry Clean only. I don't live anywhere near a dry cleaners, and i'd love to wear them out next Tuesday. Shall I risk it in the washing machine?

Label reads: 51% wool, 42% polyester, 3% acrylic, 2% nylon and 2% viscose (this bit probably describes the silky lining around the inside of the belt bit). It says Dry Clean Only - Do Not Tumble Dry, too.

Can I risk a cool, delicates wash or shall I not? xx
  • I have a real wool large travel blanket which I took to be dry cleaned and it came back in a worse state then before. Unfortunatley Dry Cleaners always seem to have a let out. Anyway with nothing to loose I put it in the washing machine on wool wash with a liquid wool wash detergent and it came out looking really good. Nice and soft and all stains gone. Not used a dry cleaners since!
  • I have a coat that is 80% polyester and 20% cotton but dry clean only....could i wash it in my machine?

I'd sling all the above in the washing machine.. put on hangers to dry..

I had a lovely dry clean only skirt.. went in the WM time and time again.. I loved it and it was always perfect when it came out. In fact after the starch washed out it was better than new!!

I also washed my daughters Boden wool duffel coat.. several times.. didn't have much choice first time.. she had fallen in dog poop
