Hello all,
Long story short, I currently have a 3 door Vauxhall corsa. I am insured with A-choice. I am having a baby in a few months so need a 5 door, bigger car.

HOWEVER, all of the suitable cars that I have been quoted on I have had very cheap quotes for. Except from who I currently insure with...
I feel as though I am being penalised for needing a new car. I sadly can’t leave A-choice yet as I pay my insurance monthly. It is annoying as I can be insured by many other company’s with the cars that I have looked at that are in my budget.

I was just wondering if anyone knows anyway around this please? Thanks in advance.
James

What do you mean you can’t leave?
do you mean its prohibitively expensive?0 -
I have been told that I would not be able to leave as I pay monthly, so in effect I would have to then pay them back the rest of the years insurance. This is what I have been led to believe. Thanks,

I think you may have taken a loan as opposed to just making monthly payments.
you should have some documentation either on paper or on line that you can look at to verify what (I assume) you’ve been told on the phone.
im not sure it’s correct that you can’t cancel (there must be a cases e.g. stolen car) but it may be the case that you won’t get anything back.
i would suggest you get the relevant documentation and read it for yourself.
and in future familiarise yourself a bit better with what you are signing up to.1 -
Thank you, I will do that. It’s a shame that I have no option other than to pay monthly. It would make life a lot easier if I just paid it as a one off haha.Thank you for your help0

If you can’t afford to pay in one go then there are other option that would be better than taking an inflexible and probably expensive loan from an insurer. For example a 0% credit card or low rate one would be better.Jam3s7899 said:Thank you, I will do that. It’s a shame that I have no option other than to pay monthly. if you can’t pay your insurance up front that indicates a stressed financial situation which would be difficult if you had an accident or unexpected car repairs. It’s also a concern if your money was very tight before having the baby (apparently kids bleed you dry I’m told). If this is the case you might get help over on the dealing with debt board. You might not have debt but they are very good at reviewing budgets if you put up a statement of affairs (a list of what you spend).0 -
A lot of people can only pay monthly and that's fine. I've cancelled a pay monthly insurance before on the second month and they only wanted me to pay a small percentage of what the total years cover would cost, but this was obviously because their company policy allowed it.
Have you called and personally talked to your current insurer, letting them know that you can find cheaper insurance elsewhere? I've had this with Hastings where my annual renewal came in at £50 cheaper than the previous year, yet Go Compare had insurers offering £300 less... I rang Hastings and without question or even proof I'd found cheaper they agreed to give me it for £300 less! I think these companies are cheeky in the sense that they'll convince you they're doing the best price they can, but in reality, they're just hoping you'll accept a price much higher than what they could offer you.
Failing that, and if you can't afford the penalty/remainder of your insurance to "get free", you'll only have a few months suffering with a 3 door before you can get a nice 5 door and new insurance right? Corsas aren't the smallest and I'm sure there are mothers driving around in Vauxhall Adams etc!
