Depend what you want to do???
If it is a nice day you can walk along the prom and around the harbour there are cafes and restaurants and a FEW shops.
If it is raining there is nothing to do.
Aberdeen is also a seaside place.
Depending on where you come from it is really quite cold up here.travelover0 -
We are coming from Hertfordshire.
We have made a couple of trips to Aberdeen before but this time we wanted to have a day out at a nearby seaside town.
Cafes and shops are good and if there is a good bit of scenery as well that would do us.Any other suggestions anneg for an alternative to Stonehaven?

If you are driving then Dunnottar Castle is just around the corner but if you are not driving then I think a walk around the harbour etc is about it.You would struggle to fill a full day but I suppose with coffee stops and lunch maybe. You can see porpoises playing at the harbour sometimes.
Let me know if you are driving or bus or train to Stonehaven.travelover0 -

I am not looking to fill a whole day.
Just want a fairly short drive from Aberdeen (Jamaica Street) to the seaside ,a walk around some nice shops and sights and maybe a bite to eat.

...i was merely going to suggest some places to visit, but had to not be on the computer at work.
stonehaven's nice and has a few shops in the market square area, you can also go down to the beach, promenade area.
Banchory is also very nice for an afternoon - and has a few more shops and some nice wee cafe's etc to stop.
Duthie park is good - the winter gardens are great!
hope that helps..26/09/2017 - Started comping again. Wins so far: 1!

yes if a nice day only a 15 minute drive to stonehaven don't go if it is raining as there is nowhere to go.have a walk along the prom and harbour and a look around town then after a snack or whatever head out of town[heading south] a few minutes and there are the ruins of dunnottar castle[signposted].You can have a look around there.nice scenery.
As irishorangutan says banchory is a nice place but inland [same distance] and you could visit if it is foggy in Aberdeen as the fog doesn't usually reach there.
If you have any other spare days I can come up with suggestions.travelover0
