O/S Daily Sunday 15 March 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying first cuppa whilst on here, DS1 still in his pit, DS2 settled and happy.
Light and blustery here, air feels cooler too.
Dinner last night was sweet chilli chicken, veg rice and veg noodles. I remembered to get the joint out to defrost so we have a joint of pork for lunch, I'll do roasties, mash, carrots, swede, brocolli, peas, yorkshires and gravy.
Hubby and I spoke to his grandad yesterday - he's fine but we're staying away due to the jobs both of us do - we both do customer facing jobs with lots of contact with lots of people so whilst we're not ill but still have to be at work until told different! The whole world has gone mad - SM bosses must be laughing their heads off but I do feel sorry for the frontline staff they seem to be getting alot of abuse because half the shelves are empty - hardly their fault!
Back to work tomorrow for me, expecting another busy day as it's sounding more and more likely we could be getting closer to an enforced lockdown - not ideal but if its needed then that's what we should do - but it's making sure that people abide by it - police resources have been cut so much not sure how they will police that. My only worry is that mum doesn't get any of this due to her Alzheimers her brain can't process what is going on so trying to make her understand they can't go out will be impossible, she will just get in a strop put her coat on and walk out - she's now at the stage of if things don't go her way or she's told she can't do something she has a tantrum and gets nasty. Not nice..
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Your worries re your DM seem to be shared by a few others on here. Stubborn old people don't like being told what to do. My DM would have been just the same as she always thought she knew best.
It's much milder this morning but, of course, we still have some rain forecast, albeit light rain!
DS called in after their break in Krakow. Back just in time as they closed all their borders at midnight. All memorials and museums were closed whilst they were there so they didn't get their planned visit to Auschwitz in. A good reason to visit again when all this is over. I got a little treat from the Wedel coffee shop but not the one I had asked for as they seem to have stopped making those! So a big marzipan bar in the yummiest dark chocolate. I soon devoured that!
I want to make a big pan of Pea and Ham soup at some point today, stock and cooking bacon out defrosting.in readiness. Some chicken defrosting too for lunch but yet to decide what it will manifest into.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, convalescents, sad or lonely. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"15 -
Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.I've just been reading the latest news on the net, it's getting scary. I think everyone is realising that this virus situation is not going to go away after a few weeks. We have a quiet day ahead I think,. I don't know if we should risk a walk, its fine and sunny, don't know what to do for the best. The shops were packed yesterday, and there were empty shelves, and long queues at the checkouts.Redruby, I expect you are still on cloud 9, justifiably so !! Nels, hope you are powering on.Hope everyone has a good Sunday, take care folks17

SCARLET Yes life in the fast lane here continues as the new normalIt certainly is getting scarier you're right but I have become quite an expert in self isolation so hey ho Hoping the terrorist will be able to visit tomorrow but if not life will continue with exercises and its looking like some garden time may be possible all week.

Morning All
Lovely day yesterday, we managed to dodge the rain long enough to get a good walk and had a good catch up over dinner. I had a message from my visitors after they got home to say how much they appreciated being part of our family, I think they really miss their family back home.
I have lots of leftovers to keep me going for a couple of days which is a bonus, I'm so lazy! I shopped at our new Lidl yesterday morning and the shelves were well stocked - even had toilet roll, for anyone who needed it. Thankfully I am well stocked up with loo roll.
Going out with DD and baby Sophie today for lunch before we can't go anywhere, really looking forward to it.
Well done Nelski, you are amazing.
Glad your DS got home TA but such a shame that places were closed.
Have a happy Sunday, take care. XX

Morning all.
It's a bit chilly here this morning. I think my boiler is having a strop about something. It says that it is on and working, but it's jolly well not and it is going to have to buck its ideas up if I have to self-isolate. I can see me having to self-isolate with my heating engineer. I don't mind, he's young and gorgeous, but he might have second thoughts.
Nelski, those scones sound lovely, I adore rhubarb and the season will soon be with us.
Off to church this morning. We have put a big notice in the porch next to the hand sanitizer, telling people not to shake hands, hug or kiss anyone. That will cause some consternation.
Hope everyone has a good day and keeps a bit warmer than I am.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Have trouble remembering how to fly.18 -
Morning all, chilly and raining again, our lawn is sog central.
RedRuby so pleased to read your good news, it must be such a relief.
OH went to T*sco yesterday. No loo roll, no baked beans, no tinned veg but we didn't need those. Mostly because of keeping a stocked cupboard but how could you manage to do that on benefits, must be a struggle. I know I am on state pension but i am fortunate in having other pensions plus freelance income but that may dry up for a while as it does rely on face to face contact. No sunflower oil, we did need that. No proper bread but they had sliced loaves, no persil powder but he was able to get the liquid. Oddly bleach was rationed to 5 per customer, I'd asked him to get 2 so he did. But no difference in the quantity or variety of fruit and veg. We don't buy meat there but he thought supplies looked normal. He did say that for one o f the usually quietest times, the shop seemed very busy.
I shall now read the scary paper.
Hope everyone has a good day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back15 -
Morning all
Thank you again for the good wishes I cant tell you the relief I am feeling, need to get the op out of the way now and then I can concentrate on the treatments its still going to be a long road but one worth travelling ! I just hope the op is not cancelled due to corona virus !
Its a bit over cast today and more rain due later I have stripped the beds and got them on a hot wash will have to put them in the TD today, we need to nip to the shop and get some dog food.
Roast beef for dinner today with all the trimmings will do some yorkshires too as these are my absolute favorite things to eat so will do extra ones.
Other than that a quick tidy round and walk the pups then a quiet afteroon.
Nels those scones sound lovely, big hug for you, you are amazing xx13 -
So now we know the government are planning to shut up all over 70's for up to 4 months. Just how do they think we are going to manage???? How do we get cash? Prescriptions etc. We can order our groceries and also medication on the internet. Not everyone can. They tell us not to keep large amounts of money in the house, but I do not see what other course we have. Our library van will not run which will leave us with no access to books.......although we can read books on line.
we can get out into the garden if the weather is ok, our neighbours are far enough away, but the ground is so wet there is actually very little we can do out there.
Just listening to Matt Hancock, the government have not thought this through, its very piecemeal and he is not answering questions. We are entitled to know what exactly we are in for and why. 4 months seems an excessive length of time to me. Perhaps the government should explain why.
It was raining when we got up, but it appears to be drying up......I did think about putting a coloured load in the washer, but changed my mind.
Supper tonight roast pork, roast spuds, brussels, cauli and carrots. Possibly sponge pudding for dessert.12 -
Morning allI've given up reading the news as I stupidly got myself in a right tizz about things yesterday. This morning is wet and miserable, in fact it's bucketing down.We are having roast beef today, but done in the slow cooker as I don't want to ruin the meat by roasting. The kitchen's already smelling lovely. Ahhhh bisto! I don't know why I can't cook beef these days without it being tough, perhaps it's my oven. I also found some cream and jam doughnuts in the freezer so we will finish those off at tea time. Mr Fix It is X-boxing and I'm having a web wander for new recipes.Hope everyone has a goodish day.Take care and stay safenan xx
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently15 -
Morning all! Was fine when I got up, now persisting down.....Played let's trip the human up on the way down the stairs with not our cat, fed the real stray cat...He has graduated now to making meow noises so I'll have to look up online what he was trying to say...No plans today apart from vague pottering when and as the mood takes me.I did houseworky stuff yesterday so today is fun day. The curtains are probably going to come off to be shortened..Yes, sewing is fun for me
I need to make the space clearer, some of our christmas presents are still in a bag on the table, and I have to wrap up my friends stuff.
A freidns son was supposed ot be going on the trip of a teenage lifetime today to Vietnam, Singapore etc, but his travel has been cancelled and as travel elsewhere has also been cancelled, he's at a loss what to do because he took a month off work to go..I feel for him...I'm sort of reading news online but when every headline is coronavirus I'm getting a bit peeved now. It's just like being surrounded by people who take pleasure in bad news because they love to be in the thick of it with...well, I shouldnt tell you really but here it is!Nelski, thanks for the link...one more recipe for me to manglenanny, might be the beef not you! Hope everyone has a good day today, or failing that, an average day....See you on the flip side Sunday...
