Iht clearance certificate

The grant of probate for my father in law has been done, the bank have now said they need to wait for a iht clearance certificate to be done before we can access the funds of the estate, there is no inheritance tax to pay and this seems to have taken so long so far and the end seems to be no where near, he says no timeframe can be given, I keep seeing different things about how long this takes, anyone have got one of the recently and how long did it all take.

Are you sure you have understood correctly?
 The executor has applied for probate and received the grant?
If so, that should be all he needs to access the assets of the deceased so as to deal with the bequests in the will.
