What Monitor?

I am looking to buy my first TFT Monitor and have narrowed it down to these:

The Acer looks best for Contrast but the Hannspree has a three year warranty.

Any comments appreciated.

TIA

Technically there's not much in it to be honest.

However, personally i'd go for the Acer cos the Hanspree looks like a bit of a pig and since you have to stare at it all day, i'd go for the one which looks the nicest!

Thanks, but what it if goes wrong after a year? I have heard TFT's have pixel problems and that is why most supplier's offer a three year warranty. You are right the Acer looks better and is £15 cheaper after Quidco !
  • I've had an Acer for years, never a pixel problem. The TFT's I've bought for work that have had pixel problems (2 out of over 300) have had them out of the box
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

A general rule of thumb is that if a computer product breaks, it will break within the first couple of months or will last forever.

No monitor company will replace a monitor for a couple of dead pixels so it doesn't make a difference anyway.

I have just got the Acer. This is my first TFT and the default settings seem very bright. I have adjusted the contrast and brightness to 30 but it still seems bright. Is this something I will get used to?

Acer give a three year warranty on the TFT which is a bit of a bonus.
  • Wouldn't touch the acer after seeing the smeery poor picture quality of a few - have a look for something decent by viewsonic or samsung

I bought this Acer from Play last week for a new PC in my daughters room, it's a cracker even though it is only VGA.

The picture is pin sharp and very similar to the Xbrite screens found on Sony kit.

I agree however adjustment is a bit fiddly, I suggest using the screen settings which will likely be found on your ATI/Nvidia graphics card or motherboard.

A wise purchase all in all, good build quality, great picture, price and style.

    Thanks for the advice.

What settings did you use? Acer say the default should be 1440x900 but there seems to be at least six variations on that! I am currently using True Color 32 60 Hertz
