Reward Current Accounts

Investigating changes to my current account I was drawn into considering getting a reward current account as generally I am able to deposit and spend enough money to qualify for the ‘rewards’. What happens if I take maternity leave? Is charging an otherwise regular customer for using their bank account during a relatively short period of personal financial change really the best the banking industry can do? Feels a little bit discriminatory to me - what do others feel/think?

Your hormons seem to be playing havoc with your ability to think logically.

There is nothing that stops you from getting [Halifax] rewards just because you are on maternity leave. You are not being discriminated against. The banking industry really isn't out to get you, nor are they responsible for your change in circumstances. You may have to make different arrangements because your income is/will be different, but different income isn't limited to women on maternity leave.

If you followed the suggestions you have been given elsewhere on the forum, you could more than double your monthly reward, despite being pregnant and despite going on maternity leave.

If you have enough savings you can just move them into an easy access account and move them in and out of the reward account every month.

You don't even have to pay in £1500 in one go.  You can do multiple payments/transfers so even if you have only £100 to spare you can transfer it in and out 15 times
