Ethernet sockets upstairs, how to get working?

Hi, we have sockets upstairs and my son is now at an age to have computer connected in his room (not considered them before in 10 years living here). How would these normally connect up to the main router which is downstairs?  I’ve included a picture of the socket (I was checking they actually has wiring behind!)
Thanks!

Do you know where the other end of the cable runs to?

If you've no idea then you've no hope of using it to connect to the router.  Either find out or consider something like a pair of Homeplug adapters.

Is it likely to run to somewhere in particular, do you think?

Well if you want to use it, you’re going to have to find out.

Assuming that you’ve got points in multiple rooms, I’d hazard a guess that they all run to the same location. Mine all go to the loft but they could be anywhere. Cupboard under the stairs/ box room/ study /etc.

Just in addition... if there is only one, I guess it’s likely to run to somewhere near where your internet comes in the house/router is located.
