Existing travel insurance policy doesn't seem to cover travel disruption - what to do?

Hi - I took out a worldwide travel insurance policy in December with Multitrip.com.  I didn't add travel disruption as an optional extra. Having looked at the policy wording, it would see that I can only claim flights / accommodation if the cancellation provisions kick in (e.g. death / injury / burglary / going into quarantine) but nothing under the policy would protect me if a country shut its borders or if the FCO advice advised against all but essential travel - that would be covered under travel disruption.

I don't think they are offering travel disruption as a bolt on.  What should I do?  I want to be protected if the advice changes / borders close.  I know some insurance companies are no longer offering travel disruption - are any still offering this?  Would it be worth taking out a new policy and just ditching this one given the circumstances?  Flights and all accommodation on this trip is around £3,000 for both of us!  Presumably airline would pay out for a cancellation so it's more accommodation costs I am worried about.

Thanks

I imagine the choice of available insurers will be getting smaller
  • I am in a similar situation.  My Annual Multi-trip policy with Staysure has the option of "travel disruption cover" as a bolt-on, but when I was discussing this with their agent, the explanation she gave me convinced me I didn't need it.  I am now unable to get through to their website to see if I can add it on!
However, I am seriously put out about this, as the clause that requires me to buy this module if I want to be covered for cancellation due to a change in FCO advice seems to me to be an unreasonable contract term.  Consider:  without that add-on, if FCO advice changes and a destination I had already booked becomes dangerous, I can't get recompense for cancellation from the insurer because I didn't pay for the extension, but if I choose to travel regardless I'll have breached the conditions of the policy and won't be covered for anything.  Catch-22.
