Natwest & RBS £175 switch incentive - can I apply for both at the same time?

Hi

I was looking at Natwest/RBS  for the £175 switch incentive.  I was pondering for a while which one to chose and then thought why can't I open an account with both?
Does anyone know if this will work?  I do have 2 current accounts that I can switch.  I've looked at the T&C's, which are as follows:

• You won’t be eligible for this offer if you’ve already taken advantage of a cash offer from NatWest, The Royal Bank
of Scotland plc (‘RBS’) and/or Ulster Bank Limited (‘Ulster’) between October 2017 and 11th February 2020 for:
(i) opening a new current account and switching to RBS/NatWest/Ulster or
(ii) upgrading your existing NatWest current account.

I have no banking history with either bank and since I'd be applying after 11th Feb for them both, I can't see why I wouldn't get paid from both banks.

Anyone tried this?

  • I don’t see why this wouldn’t work initially... until 6 months down the line when they may clock on and perhaps ask for it back.

    Thanks for your reply

Anyone aware of a bank actually asking for a switch incentive back??

If the terms and conditions does not exclude it, they cannot ask for it back. I have seen reports on this forum of people successfully getting both.

Nationwide are the only ones I know of. They explicitly state it in their T&Cs though...
  • Just been refused the RBS switch because we don't meet their criteria, I checked before applying and I thought we did!  Neither of us has a poor credit rating, although I do have a NatWest current account already, could this be the reason?

Presumably it's an account you have been refused, rather than the switch incentive?

Account opening and account switching are two separate, independent processes. Have you been rejected for the current account entirely, or just been told that you are not eligible for the switch incentive? (ie. you have no RBS account, or you have opened an account AND already made your switch and now they are refusing to pay out).

There's nothing explicitly preventing you opening accounts with both NatWest and RBS but if you read their T&Cs closely, if you've previously taken advantage of a NatWest switch offer you will be ineligible for the RBS offer.

    Many thanks Top_Cat.
After I could not open an account online due to their primitive systems not recognizing my ID, I was going to visit a branch next week, till I saw your post above.
I managed to open an account in branch this afternoon, and £175 is on it's way to me.
I definitely owe you a beer or ten. :)

Is that, switch must have started by then? Or completed by then?
