What's the point in posting this when there's already a long running thread about this?

This forum doesn't belong to the posters, and the official owners need to evaluate new information before going public. This takes time so there will always be some overlap.

I've said this before but this is how the website software works: They create an article and a thread will be automatically created for that article.

Perhaps, but in that case I'm sure they could turn off that facility if they wanted.  Or, if they can't, they could delete the extraneous thread afterwards. The implication, as they always do this, is that they don't see it as a problem, or are simply unaware they are duplicating existing threads. It comes across as clumsy and ill-thought out forum management.

[Edited to add:  I think it highly unlikely that the threads are inevitably auto generated. MSE regularly post news items, but I don't think all end up as threads. There would be loads of extra threads!  And MSE would have to tell the system which board (of many dozens) to post on, so it would need interaction and human decision-making. Plus the software has just been completely changed - with numerous behavioural changes, but this odd behaviour continues..  So I really don't think this is auto-generation.  Just my view, obvs!  But my view as someone who does administer websites... ]

Many of us have letters from Halifax which give us a different date, i.e. June 1 2020.

Maybe the 1st July date applies to newly opened Halifax Reward Current Accounts and the 1st June date applies to the old Halifax Reward Current Accounts that we all have.

That is it. At some point the Halifax website will have been updated to confirm the upcoming changes. Any accounts opened before then will receive a letter to vary the terms and conditions. Accounts opened once the website was updated already agreed to the upcoming terms at the later date.
