Washing machine-Best Performers and where to buy cheapest online Help needed!?

Trouble with Which? is that they're always out of date (their reviews, that is!).
We bought a Dyson... sure it's not the 'best value' but has great rating in just about everything and takes 9kg of wash (about 30% more than most and 50% over normal Washing Machines.
Expensive, may be... but the best - definitely!CarQuake / Ergo Digital0 -

'Other washing machines worth considering
Two of the Hotpoints we’ve tested clean well but Hotpoint has a history of washing machines that need too many repairs, so we haven’t made them Best Buys.
The Dyson and LG machine below also did well in our tests, but have only just shown up in our reliability survey.
The Dyson CR02 Flowcheck’s brilliant cleaning makes it the highest scoring machine on test. At £800 from Comet, Currys, Miller Brothers and Powerhouse, it has the highest price tag too. You’re paying partly for the distinctive looks, partly for some neat design features. For example, there’s a coin trap to catch any stray change in your washing. But the important thing is the unique drum.
It actually has two drums, which sit side by side but move in opposite directions. As well as getting the best results, this design lets the Flowcheck wash more quickly than other machines. It takes only one hour and 21 minutes for a standard wash – most machines take around two hours. And its quick wash gets good results in superfast time.
The Flowcheck’s door is wider than that of any of the other machines on test. That makes it a lot easier to stuff clothes into the large 7kg-capacity space.
We’ve got just a handful of reservations. It’s one of the noisiest machines; its rinsing isn’t great; and initial reliability results don’t look good – so we can’t make it a Best Buy.
Dyson announced last month that it will discontinue sales of its two-drum washing machines since they are making a loss. There are still some around though, and Dyson will make provision for the availability of parts and service for any machines sold.'0 -

Grumbler has posted it... but in short - regardless of all the marketing 'guff' that surrounds all these things (twin drum, dual cyclone etc.) the main reason was that it took a large load.
We're a family of three and only wash clothes about twice a week (and, yes we do change every day ;-)
Which? (as I said before) are always out of date. When I was choosing last year and read the review they hadn't yet tested the Dyson - even though it had been out for two years. I also got it for under £700, which is still expensive, but not bad for a large machine.CarQuake / Ergo Digital0 -
whichever one you choose, check catalouges and other sites where you can abuse a large percentage discount... i shopped around for ages for ours and then after getting a 20% off voucher for a catalogue it turned out to be the cheapest.
ps. doesnt having a big washing machine mean you have no room to hang up clothes??? or do you have a big dryer too?

We have a small warming cupboard, a large radiator and an even bigger 'outdoors' (suitable for 9 months of the year). I just don't agree with driers - from an environmental perspective.CarQuake / Ergo Digital0 -
I'm in the BOSCH camp too. I just got a WFX3267 (was £349 at comet in March) which is so much better than the old one. I never realised how noisy the old one was, when I set the new one going I had to bend down and put my ear next to the drum to make sure it was working!
It doesn't have a stupid clicking dial to go round while the program runs, I've always thought these were a bit old-fashioned, instead it has an LCD. It screen tells you how long is left too, I just love that.0 -
I replaced my washing machine at the end of last year. I spoke to a few servicemen about which they would recommend and Siemens came out tops. I was advised they are far the better machines along with Miele.
They are more expensive, but at the end of the day I believe you often get what you pay for. I wanted a machine that would last more than a couple of years and mine has come with a 10 year guarantee.
I chose the XLM 1600. Has a large drum with a high speed spin which cuts down on drying time and is fairly quiet to aswell.

Tis very quiet and has a childlock that stops the brat twiddling the knob and pushing the buttons when it's going. Unfortunately the only button it doesn't disable is the on off switch which cancels the program and it has to start again if he hits it. d'oh!
If think my zanussi is abit like yours, When washing is finished, does it start shrieking 3 beeps and pause's then does this again another four times? That noise drives me mad!0 -
This month's Which magazine states:
Washing Machines:
Best for reliability: Bosch, Miele & Tricity Bendix.
Recommend to a freind (Top 3):
Miele: 89% LG: 74% Bosch: 72%
Washer Dryer Machines:
Best: None
Average for reliability: Bosch, Hotpoint, Indesit, Zanussi-Electrolux.
Recommend to a freind (Top 3):
Miele: 83% Bosch: 72% AEG-Electrolux: 63%
See any names re-appearing?
Don't buy any extended warranties.
To "win" the machine would need to go wrong 3 times during a 3 year extended warranty. You would be very unlucky to get a machine that unreliable!
All my appliances are Bosch but then again I do work for one of the Bosch group companies. I did not buy all my appliance through work though. I got my new built in fridge/freezer from a chap on Ebay who was moving into a new flat but whose wife wanted a trendy SMEG. £250 instead of the staff price of £450. Real bargain! Cookers and Extractor also from Ebay advertised companies. Superceded models but £100's cheaper.Keep Smiling
