Will I be able to claim compensation for holiday to Cyprus?

I'm getting conflicting information about travel to Cyprus. We're due to go for a holiday in Cyprus 6th April for 10 days. The UK Gov site have no restrictions yet, but the Cypriot Government have now put travel from the UK under Cat II meaning anyone from the UK will have to "Compulsory isolation at home, or at premises managed by the Ministry of Health for 14 days under telephone supervision. Avoid close contact and travel, maintain basic hygiene rules, monitor and report symptoms with the Coronavirus call centre at 1420"
This will basically mean our whole 10 days would be in isolation, no exploring the island or eating out - would that be grounds to be able to cancel with compensation? We took out travel insurance with Staysure and took the "Optional Travel Disruption Extension"

Check with Staysure, they are the only people who can answer the question.

The United Kingdom is not currently in Cat II by the Cypriot government.  It was initially, but that changed very quickly, and is now considered Cat III.  Which means reduce travelling around the island and self monitoring of own health.  But it is not isolation.  Obviously all subject to change.

Thanks both, I've seen that Financial Mirror has the UK back at Cat II in a news article dated today. I can't find anything concrete on their Government's site though, hence the conflicting info.

It changed as bagand96 mentions.  I can only assume the Financial Mirror was printed before the update and change of position.  I understand the Cypriot hoteliers kicked off big time and put pressure on their Government to review the decision. They did and quickly backed down.

Yeah, looking at that now - the English section hasn't been updated since 10th Mar & Cyprus Mail online is saying UK is back to Cat II as from today :/ I'm emailing the actual apartments we're booked with to see if they can give some solid news on this situation.

Just copied & google translated the Cypriot Greek version of the Info (dated today) & Lo - UK is CAT II :(
  • I received this update from Gov.Uk  at 3.13pm today (March 13th)
The Republic of Cyprus government has announced stricter measures on UK nationals entering Cyprus applicable from 14 March. All UK nationals arriving in Cyprus from that date should self-isolate for 14 days. Those who are due to leave the country before the end of 14 days may do so provided they do not display symptoms. UK nationals who arrived in Cyprus prior to 14 March are not affected by these measures. The above measures are expected to remain in place until further notice.
Is this a true reflection on the most recent situation, or is ths before the UK was downgraded to a Cat 3?
If  the UK is in a Cat 2,   quarantine for 14 days!  Is that a case for an insurance claim?

UK is Cat 2 according to the Cypriot Government. I sent an email to the apartments we were due to stay in (10days) & this is their reply:
"Kindly be advised that guests arriving from UK will be in quarantine for 14 days, therefore we would like to advise you to either postpone your visit or cancel your reservation"

"The Republic of Cyprus government has announced stricter measures from 0100 local time on 15 March for those entering Cyprus. UK nationals (and other non-Cypriots) will not be permitted to enter the Republic of Cyprus for tourist purposes. UK nationals may enter if they are legal residents in the Republic of Cyprus, working in the Republic, attending educational institutions in the Republic or, with prior authorisation from the Cypriot government, have unavoidable professional obligations. This policy will be in force for 15 days, when it will be reviewed."
Great, so that is reviewed the day before we're supposed to go. Love Holidays are saying don't call unless you're due to travel in 5 days!
