please could I ask for a bit of advice. I’ve paid for flights to Italy on my credit card and flying at the end of May. My travel insurance said that they are only paying out for travel to Italy within the next 31 days therefore could I claim for the flights on my credit card even though my flight isn’t until May, the reason I’m thinking about it is because of the FCO advise not to travel

You'll be able to claim - or get a refund via the airline - once it's confirmed you cannot travel.
It's a little early yet. Any cancellation now would be at your own cost.0
