House Rewire - New Kitchen to be installed at a later date

I am planning on having my house re-wired. I'm not sure whether to exclude the kitchen or not at this point as I am planning to eventually knock through the stud wall to open it up into a kitchen/diner. I was wondering whether I should just have the rest of the house re-wired for now and re-wire the kitchen at a later date once the wall has been knocked through and maybe just have a couple of additional sockets installed in the mean time. Could anyone provide any advice?

Providing the wiring in the kitchen is currently safe, it would be possible to defer rewiring the kitchen. I would take the decision based on how certain I was that the kitchen would be remodelled in the future. If it is only a remote possibility, it would be best to rewire the kitchen when the other work is done. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1

It doesn't really make sense to rewire the kitchen until you know where all the units are going to go. You will need to make sure that all the sockets are in the right places - some to power your fixed appliances and some above the counters. It's very common on new builds to have a separate kitchen ring from the rest of the house, as that's where all the heavy loads tend to be. So it's quite possible to wire the rest of the house, with a spare breaker for the kitchen. The existing kitchen wiring could be temporarily routed to that breaker. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
I have just had my house rewired but we didnt have the kitchen done, because we are having an extension. The back wall was done but the rest meant all the wiring was laid under the floorboards. It's in place ready to be connected.
Get some electricians in to quote, see what they recommend.1 -
I'm in the same position: have just bought a house and got it entirely rewired. The electrician just put the kitchen on a separate 'ring circuit' using the existing, old wiring, and will come back and rewire the kitchen once it's been installed.0
