How do you buy shares the old fashioned way?

I want to buy shares, but don't want to use a platform - and I want the shares to be in my name, not in a nominee account.
So can you still buy shares via the "certificated" route? And if so, does anyone have any recommendations?
(The only lot who seem to do it now are Hargreaves Lansdown - cost looks to be about £40).
Hope someone can advise!

You'll need to purchase the shares using a nominee service. Then request the transfer of the holding into certificated form. X-O charge £15 for this service (per holding).0

Just buy them through the registrar, e.g. Equiniti0

You'd do it through ShareviewThrugelmir said:

Guaranteed to be more expensive than 40 quid though

Why, out of interest? Are you lonely and want to be constantly spammed by scammers who got your contact details off the public share register?0 -

The odd opportunity to invest in a film, maybe, but it goes straight from the doormat to the bin in one easy flick

What is the driver for wanting to buy shares like this? £40 per trade?Ted2020 said:I want to buy shares, but don't want to use a platform - and I want the shares to be in my name, not in a nominee account.
