Prove it letter - would it benefit me?

Hi,
Long story short - a debt was taken out in my name without me knowing, which later defaulted. It has since been sold onto a DCA, who have sinced confirmed they are removing their entry off my credit file as - another party accepted liability and cleared the balance.
My question is,
Should I send a prove it letter to the original creditor?
As they wont confirm or deny if they will remove their original default entry on my credit file.
