Excessive Freeholder Charges

Help please,
I am currently selling my leasehold flat and the freeholder has hit me with massive admin charges £ 7000. He has said 140 emails have been action-ed by him over the course of 1 year but they have not come from me. He states they are from solicitor and estate agents and that he can charge £ 130 per hour part of in dealing with them. He is also charging hundreds of pounds saying he has had to speak with estate agents. I am at the exchange stage of my sale and he knows it and if i dont pay its likely i will lose the sale of the property. What can i do and what options do i have if i do pay ? can i still try and claim back after i have paid ? i really appreciate any advice. Thanks

What does the lease say about allowable charges? Have you asked what emails they've had to deal with - I don't see why there'd be any.

Good news: as a leaseholder you actually have quite a lot of legal protections against unfair charges.
Bad news: legal remedies aren't quick or easy.
Try contacting the leasehold advisory service.

Ask him for a full breakdown of what has been asked and how long they took. 140 seems a lot. If they are claiming that there should be a for mal record

Why would estate agents contact the freeholder about anything? Are you sure someone hasn't hacked into something and this is a scam?sara37 said:He has said 140 emails have been action-ed by him over the course of 1 year but they have not come from me. Tell freeholder you will be speaking to Leasehold Advisory Service as you don't deem costs proportionateAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0
