With valid annual insurance you're covered if an incident happens now, even if you're due to travel AFTER your insurance runs out
I read the above on this website, after ringing Citizens Advice I have been advised this is not true and now I'm confused...HELP!! Basically I have an annual travel insurance, renews every year. Two weeks after it expires we are due to go away, obviously it would have renewed. My partner has had a nasty accident and it looks unlikely we can travel. Can anyone advise me please. Thanks

Your insurance is valid until the day it expires. If you make a claim while it is valid, providing it falls within the limits of the policy, the claim should be honoured.2

I may be missing something here but if he's already had the accident and your insurance is current now then you can claim for cancellation (subject to the policy conditions of course).
I think you'll find though that although you have auto renewal on your policy, you still have to declare any changes from last year for it to be valid.
Are you hanging on making a decision hoping that he might be fit to travel?

The thing to do is to renew the new policy the minute the old polcy ends, that way you have ongoing cover,if you have an accident before the old policy ends you claim on that,if you have an accident after the new policy starts you claim on that.
The only problem would be having a problem between policies but if you auto renew there will be no gap between policies.

Cheers, we have tried to wait a couple of weeks, but the recovery time is now months rather than weeks. So longer than first thought. So thought it may be best contacting them now to cancel. Never claimed before so clueless..thank you againmaman said:I may be missing something here but if he's already had the accident and your insurance is current now then you can claim for cancellation (subject to the policy conditions of course).

I booked my holiday in Jan (we go at the end of Mar) and my annual policy expired on 29 Feb 2020, however I took out a policy with a different company that started on 28 Feb 2020. If I have to claim before I go on holiday, am I covered by either compay and if so, which one do I claim off? (ie the old company because they were valid when I booked the holiday or the new company because they will have a valid policy when/if I have to cancel?)0

ThanksI would be calling my travel insurance company rather than Citizens Advice for a definitive position explanation in respect of your situation. As said, if you have an accident etc. that is covered within the relevant Ts&Cs during the validity of your current policy there should be no issues.

I was told a couple of years ago you couldn't have policies that overlapped, maybe check that in case that invalidates all your insruanceGr3mlings said:I booked my holiday in Jan (we go at the end of Mar) and my annual policy expired on 29 Feb 2020, however I took out a policy with a different company that started on 28 Feb 2020.
