Car Insursnce NCB

Hi. My current car insurance ends on the 6th of April and it will be my first year of no claims. I was wondering if I started a new policy on thag same day if I would be able to use that NCB. Or I would have to wait for the 7th.
The big problem I have is I am quoted £100 per month for insurance on the 6th. But £170 per month on the 7th.
