Travel Insurance 18 months ahead

I have somehow managed to book a holiday 18 months from this new year. However, trying to follow the mantra to book insurance ASAB, has proved impossible. No insurer is willing to look that far ahead. So I have booked and paid a hefty deposit, but have no insurance to get that money back until the insurance window opens nearer the time.
Have I missed a trick somewhere, or do I just have to wait until insurance companies think I should/would have bought such a holiday?
I only booked so far in advance as it is a once in a lifetime trip and gets booked up years in advance on the dates I can go.
Thanks.

This should be possible, because it's actually not that rare to book a holiday 18mths ahead, especially cruises. You will probably need to speak to a human rather than using a website, and it will be costlier because of the increased risk of cancellation.

Thanks. Is there a sweet spot to book between it being a big risk of cancellation and not  too late. I'm thinking here of the '21' day thing with car insurance.

There is nothing to stop you taking out annual multi-trip travel insurance now and that will cover you for any eventuality in the next 12 months.  When that policy is coming to an end take out a new one, or am I missing something here?

I don't really go that often to justify annual. Not a gadabout I'm afraid, but I can see that working for those who take 'a few' holidays a year. I will look at around the 12 month mark as that is the limit of one off policies.

But what if in 12 months time there is FCO advice not to travel to the country in question? Wouldn't your insurance no longer cover you for said advice if it was still being applied at the time of travel?

Contact a broker who might be able to sort out insurance for you however I doubt if you will get any cover for the ongoing coronavirus
