New car

Hi. I've just recently purchased a car, from a dealer selling from his home. Drove car home, no issues. Took it for a drive following weekend where it developed a mis fire, as the dealer was a distance from home, booked it into a local porsche specialist in Cardiff, where on diagnostic, faults were found. Had to replace spark plugs, coil packs, and a few other issues, bill of £1300. Messaged dealer but had no reply. I've now given the car a wash over weekend, and discovered glazing to drivers door, which he'd covered up with some sort of wax. Quote for this roughly £600. Feel let down by dealer, and feel car was advertised falsely, he's clearly covered up bad servicing and paintwork prior to sale. Where do I stand now, as had car over 6 weeks.

Can you be clear. Have you at any point contacted or given the dealer chance to fix any issues before you spent money on the trust of a 3rd party?

Why would a dealer sell from home ? Are you sure this is not a private seller.

Many people run businesses selling cars from their own home. They may try and pretend their private sellers but in reality and legally they are classed as dealers.

And I would see that as a red flag immediately...     Was this Porsche massively cheaper than buying from a specialist or a regular Porsche dealer?
I need to think of something new here...
  • Not massively cheaper.. But I'd say£1000 lower than most on auto trader.

What did the advert say about the condition of the car? Has it been serviced in accordance with manufacturer recommendations?

I would just forget about the dealer and enjoy the car - you wont get your money back, you wont reject it and walk away and be put back to the same financial position as before you bought it.
