Card closed within 14 day cooling off period - Credit File help

Also posted in CC Forum - maybe some experts in this part can help:

Hi,
I opened then closed an Amex Card back in December within the 14 day cooling off period.

My understanding is that there should be no record of this on my credit files, however the search is still there, along with the account being opened on my credit files for a period longer/different that it was actually open for.

I opened it on the 9th December, closed it on the 11th December, but the CRA's (all 3) are reporting it opening on the 9th December (correct) and closing on 20th February (incorrect).

Can someone confirm what is correct when it comes to cards being closed within the 14 day cooling off period and what should and shouldn't be shown on your credit files.

Thanks.

The initial search is always going to be there, as that happens during the application process. It stays even if you are rejected or you refuse the card etc.
I don't know for sure about the closing date, but it could be that there was (about) a month to produce the statement for the period of time the card was open, then another month to collect any payment that might've been due.
  • To have the account removed from your credit files you would have needed to specify that you were withdrawing from/cancelling the agreement rather than just closing the account.

I did. I specified that I was cancelling it within the 14 day cooling off period on the online chat with Amex and even asked them if there would be any reference to it on my credit files and they said no.

I have a copy transcript of the entire convo.
