travel insurance price, is this right?

Ok so me and the OH are going on our honeymoon in November to Barbados for 10 nights. we are 30 and 27 years old.

She suffers from anxiety which she is on medication for, I have declared this in pre existing medical conditions etc but apart from that we are both fit and healthy. The cheapest price I am getting is £85 for a single trip! this seems very dear to me but I just want to check if this is about right or prices are high due to Covid-19. I am holding off buying it until Covid-19 is all over with (I am hoping by summer) if the price is high due to this. I know the advice is to buy as soon as you book but I have only paid £300 deposit so far so worst case scenario I lose £300 (and this is assuming that one of us become so ill that we wont be better in 6-7 months) I have booked on credit card and the provider is ATOL protected so I see the risk is small.

If this is the going rate for travel insurance then that's fine and I will buy it but it just seems very high to me.

Travel insurance for the US side of the pond is generally higher than the UK and Europe because medical costs are often much higher.  Although we are somewhat older than you, we also have medical conditions we had to declare.  Our annual travel insurance for Europe is roughly £75 per person, so the figure you state doesn't seem exceptionally high to me.

thank you, the issue is is that this is a single trip policy. is the price still reasonable?

Have you looked on a price comparison website? If several quotes are similar to the one you have -then yes the price is reasonable.
  • It seems reasonable to me for worldwide cover, especially if it's covering anxiety. A lot of companies won't cover anxiety at all .

If the £85 is for both of you it sounds very good value and I'd be reading the small print thoroughly for exclusions. If the price is each then it should be a good standard of policy covering most eventualities (but still check the small print!).
You pretty much get what you pay for with travel insurance, cheap is not often a good option.

It seems reasonable to me,we have paid £137 for one off policy for 6 days in the USA, we do have issues but as has been stated insurance to that part of the world is not cheap

I'm similar age, have anxiety and previously paid £50-something for 7 nights in USA for a couple, 2 years ago. So 10 nights (longer) in Barbados (maybe slightly riskier than USA?) plus inflation and it's not very far off £85 at all.
Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard

The price is secondary to the quality of cover.  At least it should be.  You may be able to get much cheaper cover, but will it be comparable?  It's a false economy saving £20 on insurance if the cover is significantly less.

How much is £85 as a percentage of the overall holiday cost?  My guess is that it's marginal, so better to pay for decent cover than spend ages hunting for a "bargain".
