Immersion - Boost or Normal?

Options
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping you might be able to help answer a question that’s dividing opinion!

We’ve moved into a rented flat and the normal/boost switch is causing discussions over which setting is which.

What are your thoughts? Is this currently set to boost or to normal?

Agree, normal. But what's actually going on with the wiring behind the homemade labelling is anyone's guess!

Has the hot water tank got two heaters (round caps visible on the side halfway down, and at the bottom)?

Since it is connected like this, it may not be on a dual-rate tariff.   In which case 'boost' = half a tank of hot water.
'Normal' = a whole tank of hot water.

If it is on a timed dual-rate system that is switched by the meter, then 'Normal' = heated overnight using cheaper electricity, and 'boost' = heat some of the tank at any time, using peak-rate lekky during the day.  EDIT - no that wouldn't work with only one electrical feed.

If the O/P is on night store heating and an E7/etc tariff then the boost has never been needed in my close to 50 years use, in fact the water controller should isolate and deny at ability to use two [top/&/bottom] heating elements simultaneously.

If not on E overnight 7 hours charge tariff and on top or single element tank then the maximum boost for modern timed systems is usually two hours. That pic in #1 looks like non PartL old school immersion. Best of luck.
