    Robbie, thanks for highlighting the potential backdating of CA.

    OP, not to that you can only do this if you were already providing 35 hours of care and were not earning £123/week or more. Earnings are treated as paid in advance and on the normal earnings cycle, so if you earn over the threshold and are paid monthly you do not become eligible to be paid CA until a month after your final earnings payment. For UC any earnings received prior to the claim have no impact.

    On timescale for claiming CA my experience is that claims can take two or even three months to decide. I have no idea why given that it should be a very simple benefit to process.
