CST Law Acting on Behalf of Extra Energy

I have recently been harassed by 'Extra Energy' and CST Law (since December) claiming that I have unpaid debts with the company; a year after being a customer/company going bust.
I have become very anxious that this may harm my credit rating if the company is legit and there are any outstanding debts (which I don't recall failing to pay my final bill). Can anyone advise where I go from here? I feel so lost as to whether to contact the company and pay or whether it is a scam. I saw online that Extra Energy's customer details were hacked; hence my uncertainty of company's authenticity.

Firstly, I did a simple search for 'Extra Energy Administrators' and it came up with Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC). CST Law is a debt recovery company - perhaps employed by PwC.
You need to make contact with PwC and ask them if they are using CST Law. If the answer is yes, then information is the key here.
You need to make sure you have:
Full details of what CST Law says you owe - the period concerned and meter readings for that period. Have they sent you an actual itemised bill. If not, you should request one.
Next, full details of your own 'final' bill from Extra Energy - again, the period concerned, meter readings and what you paid. Also, was this marked as a final bill or just another bill before they went bust?
When did you stop paying Extra Energy - did you have a Direct Debit and when did you stop it?
Once you've considered all of the above, you can work out if indeed to owe anything.

JohnB47's advice is spot on. You should also have some assurance that PWC are a firm of Chartered Accountants regulated by ICAEW and their actions have to comply with an Ethics code. The particular named partners dealing with Extra Energy are Mike Denny, Matthew Hammond and Ian Green based in PWC Leeds office. Even though the debt collection task has been outsourced to a third party (as seems to be the case), PWC will have a responsibility for their actions and conduct! It will be advisable to have your own complete picture of what has been supplied by Extra Energy to you, and how much you have paid to the company. Hope this helps!
