Hi, I'm not sure where to post this question so I hope I am in the right place. A friend of mines husband has just been admitted to hospital, he has Alzheimer's. he is to stay in for a few weeks ,then who knows what will happen, they say his medication may control the violence in which case he will se sent home to her care ( she receives carers allowance) or he will go into a home. they live in a council house in the UK. The only thing of value that they own is a caravan on a site in Spain. If he is admitted to a home will my friend have to sell the caravan to fund his care ? Thanks in advance

Your friend knows about the above?
With regard to paying for care, he can only be assessed on his share of any assets, may well be below the threshold and apart from that, if the disease is leading to violent behaviour, he may be entitled to CHC funding.

Also if they cannot control the violence he may need to be committed as a care home or hospital may not be able to cope. Then when the dementia moves on to mean he cannot be violent he will lose the funding. I am sure there was a thread on here in the last couple of weeks about this happening.
