O/S Daily Monday 9 March 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, mild this morning.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm bathed, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, feeling generally more comfortable so hoping we're now going the right direction. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, swede, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy - no meat left but some LO's so will use them as part of another meal at some during the week. Fish will be on the menu for tonight.
Back to work today - the last few Monday's have been busy so we'll have to see how it is, mail out has hit the mats so likely to be busy. Deep joy!
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Showery this morning but light and quite mild. Yesterday looked lovely but there was a biting wind, good for drying the washing at least!
I had a lovely chilled day, some sewing, some tidying and fixing a notice board - it had elastic around it to hold bits and bobs on but the elastic had perished. I've stuck little pegs on it so is as good as new again - didn't take long but had taken me over a week to think about it!
A busy day in store at work so the day should go quite quickly, hoping for a walk later with the charming Sophie.
Happy Birthday to Ger's Mum, hope you both enjoy the fizz.
Take care. XX13 -
Morning folks. Bah couldn't get in MSE this morning as it was decreed the password I have been using since the big changeover was incorrect!! Now changed to a different one, we'll see how long it likes that one!
Yesterday turned out better than forecast and we ended up with a nice bright day. Different story this morning, grey, drab and wet out there.but at least it feels mild. There are snippets of blue sky so will see which wins!
It's the much postponed meter change today. I had under the steps, where the meter is, all nice and tidy and free of clutter for the date I had to cancel for the funeral, but now it's almost as bad as ever! My slot is between 12 till 4 so all morning to clear it out. I hate workmen of any sort in the house and will be glad when it's done. Sparkle will be in hiding whilst he's here, she's not very sociable with strangers.
Wishing Mum of GERS a lovely birthday and enjoy your fizz. I hope the noise of the workmen doesn't spoil your day. ((HUGS)) to everyone else, thinking of the poorlies, convalescing, sad, worried or lonely. Take care all xx

I'm early for a change, I was dreaming a lot - about coronavirus and also dad. I don't know why I was dreaming about the virus, must be the wall to wall news coverage.
We had a lovely day yesterday with Chris and Crystal. I cooked roast pork in the aga - it cooks much faster than a normal oven but so long as you don't overdo it the meat seems much tastier. I couldn't have one as my sole cooker though like they do, it would drive me mad.
I don't know what we shall do today, Sis-in-law is with us till tomorrow but we probably won't go out, if it's dry we might have a go at tidying the garden. Somerset bean stew for dinner.
Happy birthday, Gers mum13 -
Good morning all. Thanks CAMELOT - here's a day I didn't think DM would see. 🎂 Fizz and cake ready for later when her friend is coming. I've also got a range of vases ready for the inevitable avalanche of flowers.I had a lovely time browsing dishwashers and built in ovens last night, sounds so sad 😞 My initial choices are the second cheapest though I should probably go for the cheapest options. We'll see. An added bonus was that DM suggested that I sort out the kitchen sink situation which is also rather antiquated. On a roll!
Meanwhile, my reality is getting ready for the return of the builders this morning. And I need to gear myself up to face the difficult task of producing a perfectly soft boiled egg for DM's birthday breakfast. What a life!Happy Monday to everyone.14 -
Morning everyone
Nice sunny morning here today. I have a day off today but stuck in the house this morning as I have a man coming to fix my washing machine between 9.23 and 12.23! It's not quite broken but sounds like it's going to take off when it's spinning! Second attempt at getting it fixed...man came a few weeks ago but didn't have the part...even though I'd obviously told them the problem when I booked the repair.
TA - I too hate having workmen in the house
Gers - I hope your mum has a lovely birthday. I'd find it very difficult to live with mine for a whole year, though I suppose if I had to I'd just get on with it, I'm lucky though as I'm only a 10 minute walk down the hill to my parents house.
It's my dad's 85th birthday today...chippy tea tonight.
I had a treat yesterday as my DD picked me up from work and we went out for a lovely Sunday lunch. Little grand daughter was waving and smiling at everyone, being very cute,
She stayed with me last night and slept for almost 12 hours! DD picked her up early as she has a hospital appointment about her lung condition. We live about an hour and a half drive from the hospital, but they always seem to be given 9am appointments.
Well I'd better move and get some jobs done. Hope everyone has a good day

DP1 - happy birthday to your dear Dad.I've always found it difficult to live with DM, which is why I lived in Newcastle for over 30 years. Now, apart from the odd rise of tension, we're rubbing along better. I suppose it's because she's frail and mostly bed bound.10

Good morning troups
Happy Birthday Gers mum
I know what you mean about the dishwasher Gers one week of washing up was quite enough for me when I got back from hospital then against all advice from the OT was back to my beloved dishwasher...it was so nice to have properly washed dishes again.
Terrorist due at 9.30am today I have a horrible feeling he is going to discharge me or at least see me much less. he has been a big support for me and his encouragement dance classes and positive attitude I will miss loads. I also have the stroke nurse coming on my request as I am still worried about the lack of action by my docs on a horrible high series of BP readings hopefully she can either reassure or push for some treatment. I'm not usually a worry wort but 2 yrs ago my dad died of a stroke due to high blood pressure so its a bit sensitive for me.
Enjoyed a meatless roast last night and stuffed my ailing body with lots of vegCoquilles st jacques tonight with a caesar salad. No other plans bar the usual step target and a few housey bits.
have a good day all15 -
Morning all
Its bright and sunny here for now but more rain due this evening, I have a wash on the go and will hang it on the line for a while, need to clean through after the weekend and take the pup for her walk.
No appointments today but seeing a new consultant tomorrow re the reconstruction and I should hear about the bone scan results on Friday.
The rest of the roast pork for dinner tonight so no effort required there at all. We have swapped over internet providers today after John Lewis charged me £10 for a hours phone call to my sister who lives ten mins away, the bill from them was over double last month , they said it was cos I was on the phone during the day and we had free evenings and weekend calls ! swapped over now and all calls included in price, I was not happy with JL !!
Gers A very Happy Birthday to your mum I hope she enjoys her fizz and cakes x
Nels I hope the stroke nurse can help you or at least put your mind at rest xx
Have good days all xx14 -
Morning all, grey and damp with lots of rain forecast this afternoon, DH may be back from work early if it's bad. Yesterday ended up being a lazy day at home, and we had steak for tea, with apple pie /ice cream after.Chicken tonight in some form.Happy birthday to Gers DM & dp1s DDad.Usual tidy round after the weekend, then I might make a new dogbed - the one I made to go under the table has been so successful it's a struggle to get her off it and washed , which it is now badly in need ofHope you all have a lovely day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. MSE would not let me post until I signed in, then told me my password was wrong, put it in manually and bingo. No idea what is going on since they changed the format, I ticked the box to sign in automatically ages ago, but today it did not happen. I really do not like the new format, less posts on a page and double spacing between sentences.
Shower, washed my hair, laundry in the washer. I managed to get the new line up on Saturday, it has a steel core so difficult to wind round, managed it, I may have to try and tighten it at some point, its drooping a bit.
Sun keeps coming and going, OH has the back door open, it feels a bit chilly, but hope to get the washing on the line, its 4 loads this week, whites, bedlinen and towels as well as the coloured that are in now.
Our new neighbour signs for the bungalow today, not moving in straight away........
Lamb yesterday was delicious, there is enough left for tonight, then I will make scotch broth with the bone.10
