Debt Relief Order Help

Options
Hi I mounted an unhealthy level of debt what is £11,000 mainly through bad financial decisions by using catalogues and several credit cards.

It’s now got to the point where it is virtually impossible with my income and expenditure to cut back anymore and be able to pay off this level of debt.

I know I have been stupid and reckless regarding managing my money but I know it is to late for self pity I need to find a solution and a way to clear my debts off for once and for all.

I have found out about Debt relief orders and I am strongly considering going down that route but if possible I would like a few answers from people who have gone down this route based on their experience.

What debts and expenditure do you have to declare?
Do I have to declare my wife’s income or just my own?
What is the process of the debt relief order?
Do you need to have a face to face meeting in your own home?
Do you have to declare items you could potential sell to clear your debts?

And

Finally has anyone been rejected when applying for a debt relief order?

Thank you for taking your time to read my message and thanks in advance for all your help.

Sean

    1. all of them.
    2. yes, if youre living together, you need to declare your household income
    3. Look at the Citizens Advice website regarding DROs
    4. no.
    4. of course, and if you have over £1000 in assets you cant go for a DRO.

im not sure if you really know if a DRO is a good idea at all, you seem to be woefuilly ignorant of the rules involving them. Look at the Citizens Advice website regarding DROs for starters then phone up someone like Stepchange.

In terms of assets we’re talking art, antiques, vehicles, expensive jewellery etc. It’s not assets in terms of normal household possessions like tv, computers, normal furniture etc, these things aren’t going to be sold off to repay debts.
