Updating wills after civil partnership.

My partner and I have been together for around 20 years, and have held mirror wills (made by a solicitor and held there) since our youngest child was born over a decade ago.

We have reviewed our wills a year or so ago, and they are still relevant and up-to-date. However, we are planning to register our civil partnership this year and it's occurred to me that this may have an impact on our wills, in the same way as marriage invalidates any previously-held wills.

Considering that our wills are still relevant, it's just our relationship status that will change, could we just re-type the wills we already have, get them witnessed and give them to the solicitor to hold? Or is it likely that we'll have to pay the solicitor for new wills in order that they'll be able/ willing to keep them?!

Any experience/ wisdom welcome. Thanks in advance.

I would say it’s best to go to a solicitor again for advice, where property and children are concerned it’s worth paying to ensure there are no mistakes.

I agree with the above. Various things have changed, legally as well as in your relationship. The answers you gave to the 'what if' questions might have changed, you should at least revisit them.
