Optional travel disruption add on to policy - not covered

We took out travel insurance the day we booked our £8k cruise around Italy. Ok its until July however we were curious. We have booked independent flights and 2 nights either end of the 10 night cruise (hotels via Expedia paid in full not refundable). NON OF THIS is covered as I didnt know you could take out optional cover. I am sure I must have seen it and bypassed it but it wasnt clear when we did it online. I am sure Insurance Companies make it so small you cant see it. So now if we decide not to go we lose flights and hotels, plus deposit for cruise totalling £2.5k. No decision has been made but we picked the ports not the ships. I dont fancy Tenerife (if they let us in) instead of Montecarlo !! Its all very confusing and complicated.  Ultimately I am not scared to cruise. I am scared someone gets a temperature and we have to stay in our rooms and never see the very expensive ship we are on. Or any of the ports !! Celebrity Apex is the ship and they have just announced a delay in the naming ceremony. Cruises running as normal but we are not insured as we are leaving from Rome. Any thoughts please. TIA

Even if you had taken the cover it wouldn't have covered for you deciding not to go. Insurers don't insure disinclination to travel.
I can't speak for your policy, but all the policies I've ever looked at it's been very clear if travel disruption is included or an optional extra. If its optional you tick a box to add it, like you do for other optional extras.
