NCD has made my insurance higher?!

So its coming near the time i need to renew my car insurance and as this is only my second year i wanted to make it as cheap as possible (first year was £1400)
So i first put my mileage very low at 3k as i wanted to start cycling to work anyways and i was pleasantly surprised to see it came to £755. (No box)
Then just out of curiosity i put it up to 8k mileage and it was cheaper at £735! (No box) Woohoo!
Then when i was going through it all to check i realised i haven't put my 1 year NCD down, and it changed to £975 (and this time it wanted a box put in). That's nearly £250 more for not making a claim and they now wanted to put a telematics box in too!!! How can this be? And do i have to put down i have 1 year NCD or will that void the policy if something does go wrong? It seems that these 'insurance formulas' are just a bunch of BS, and it's making me go loopy!

Maybe its gone up because you were fiddling with different variables (trying to play the system), not saying you were but from the insurers point of view (the algorithm they use) it could look that way.

It's not the NCD which is increasing the price, but the ever changing details you keep putting in.

Got banned from a comparison site looking for insurance for a young new driver. Contacted them
and explained the price was more important than the actual car. All other details remained the
same though. Only the car changing.
I found...
Car too old = higher premium
Less than 4k miles = higher premium.

if your fiddling with quotes, use different name and address and use a VPN, you potentially could be flagged for quote manipulation if you fail to do so.
Or why not make it even easier and be truthful on your details so you only need to do it once"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
