PPI claim company hounding next for money 6 years after claim

I received a PPI payout in 2014. Sadly for me, I used a claims company JPS financial. I recall paying my fee because I was sickened by how much it was & annoyed for not just doing it by myself.

Fastforward to 2020, I have received several text messages demanding on overdue payment and threatening legal action. I called them and they said their records show payment never received.

My plan is to call my bank to find evidence of my payment, but I smell a scam of some sort especially as this is almost 6 years ago to the day.

Has anyone else had this or can recognise it as a scam?

It doesn't sound like a scam, as it's almost 6 years to the day, which is the maximum period before a debt becomes statute barred.

And as it's a company you previously used, you can be certain it's not a scam.

Check your bank statements for evidence of payment.

I would stop talking to these people by text and phone. Letters only from this point onwards - you need to have a papertrail.
