Boiler replacement - was I being optimistic?

Options
Had this quotation to replace my very old boiler (from the early 90s) - it's working but has been poorly recently and very noisy. So there's no huge urgency but I'd like to get it done. I'm in the South East but way outside London (Hants/Berks area). I really liked the installer who came round; he explained everything really well. When I got the quotation it seemed high to me (I was expecting around £3k based on what I'd read online). I asked for it to be itemised but he says they never break it down. He will also only install one kind of boiler which he says is the best (they wear their branded clothing).
Just interested in others' views because if this is actually a decent quotation I will probably go with it and accept I don't know enough about how much things cost!  For the below I've been quoted £3800 including VAT.

a. Strip out the existing boiler, flue, controls and hot water cylinder
b. Supply and install a Worcester 15Ri boiler and flue
c. Supply and install a Worcester primary filter
d. Supply and install replacement pump, valve and controls
e. Supply and install indirect stainless steel hot water cylinder
f. Re-wire the system
g. Supply and install controls
h. Supply and install a TRV
I. Removal of waste materials

Get a quote from British Gas (do not buy from them!!) their price will tell you the rip off rate - then you can compare.

A Worcester 15Ri is only £825+VAT from most trade suppliers, so that is a pretty hefty price tag for labour - Mind you, a S/S hot water tank isn't cheap either.... Get a couple more quotes from other local installers, and then get one from BG as a comparison.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

Materials about £1600 a ton either way possibly, so labour of about £1500, seems fair
i dont see a flush on the quote though, your boiler warranty wont be valid if it isnt done

Well that depends on how many hours you expect it to take and what you consider to be a fair hourly rate for a Gas Safe registered fitter.

Just about any boiler replacement quotes I've seen appear to have a significant markup in them because the industry seems to have decided that is what it will cost.

Sourcing the parts then paying a labour only hourly rate will normally be quite a lot cheaper. Providing of course you can find a competent person who will do it on that basis......

Any company VAT registered will usually have costs far above anything most consumers understand, if they dont do it for around the price quoted then everyone might as well be a sole trader

After comparing others and none are cheaper you could maybe get rid of waste material yourself.

A family member recently had a combi boiler installed for £2500, and all that entails. Just a basic comparison.
