Leasehold and freehold

Hi all, we are currently in the process of selling our mid terrace house. We were told that our house was freehold but the shared entry is leasehold. Is this a common occurrence?

It's possible that you own the freehold of your house, and you own 'something else' leasehold.

For example, it's not unusual to own a freehold house and a leasehold garage or parking space.

But it would be very strange for you to own the leasehold of a 'shared entry'. You would typically only own the leasehold of something that is only used by you.

Could it be something like the following (which might be more usual)?
    1. You own the freehold of your house
    2. You own the leasehold of your garage/parking space (or maybe part of your garden)
    3. Somebody else owns the freehold of the shared entry, and you have to pay them a service charge for repairs and maintenance

Why not check for yourelf rather than a vague "We were told...."?
Search the LR here a buy the Freehold and leasehold Titles and see if you are named as he owner. Seems strange you've paid £X00,000 for a property and don't know what you bought though.......

Why are you asking whether it's common? Has anyone suggested there's a problem?
