HSBC: no reply to app within a week

OH applied for an HSBC card online. Entered all personal details, salary etc and at the end it said they would revert within a few days. That was a week ago and there's total silence. Has this happened to anyone else? We are uncomfortable that all the personal info was entered and it seems the application has 'disappeared'. What should he do?
He wanted the 0% on purchases card. Chose HSBC over halifax as have just had a phishing email on my card from the latter.

Phone them and enquire about the application.

No point in guessing what's happening and hopefully they should be able to find it and get the process moving again. Did you get an email confirming they had received your application?

I can't comment on the application, but I would never choose one bank over another on account of a 'phishing' email - these don't come from the bank, and can appear to be from any bank. I've had just as many purporting to be from HSBC as from Halifax - and, indeed, any other bank - in my life.

Er, no. Maybe it all went into cyberspace. Will try to get OH to call. thanks.
  • Still waiting to hear about an online application from EGG, I have e-mailed them today, in my Husbands name (yes I know, I shouldn't but no response yet) my Husband is now on his ship, no phone signal & no email address as has just changed ship, so he can't contact them & it's in his name, as he is the only earner. I think they should give more realistic timescales rather than say 24 hours & then not get back to you.

My first post guys, here goes! HSBC online applications will take approx 10working days if you don't get a decision online straight away. The application will be in the system as if there was a problem with the online application it would have directed you do call them direct on the phone (0800 130 130 - Direct Financial Services) to complete the app.
I would ring this number 0870 0106645 to chase up progress on the application if you haven't heard anything within the 10 working days!
    I do hope this helps!!
