Right then here goes people the rather long and miserable story of my finances!

Basically I have lived in my house for three years now and its just come off its fixed rate and I cant remortgage it. I was living with my partner until recently in his house and was renting mine out for 400 per month and was paying all bills fine, then we split up and in the last 6 months I have so skint its unreal!

Breakdown per month outgoings is:
Mortgage – 363
Council tax - 70
Water – 24
Secured loan - 255
Bank loan - 170 (3 years left to run £5000 balance)
Other loan – £82.5 balance = 1100 (16 months left)
Gas - £35 (with a few cold nights throw in there!)
Electric - £30 (with some severe energy saving but I should do that anyway)
Food - £20 – courtesy of aldi J
Household stuff - £20
Petrol £65
mobile - £35, now 300 bill from non payment and been cut off

Debt
Cred card – £250 up to date but cant pay this month
Cred card – £700, haven’t paid for three months
Catalogue – £150 haven’t paid for three months
Catalogue – £200 up to date
Overdraft 1- £1900
Overdraft 2 - £300

The house worth 85000-90000 and the mortage balance is 48800, the secured loan settlement figure is 30000. I only earn 13878 in my FT job and 4200 (both before tax and NI) in my part time job(pub, fri sat sun). I also do a Foundation degree part time at night so couldnt do any more really!!

I think I need a debt managment plan (I think she says ha!) have struggled until now and the weight loss has been great ( 3 stone in 6 months) but my car insurance and tax etc is due in jan and its all too much!

Hope someone can help or advise me I cant cut down any more, I dont buy clothes drink or smoke and I work as much as I can, in two yeras time when I have finished my degree Im told my wage will go up to 16997, I just need to hang in till then!!

  • Don't want to add to your worries but you seem to have missed off a few things.....internet, tv licence, hair cuts, birthdays, Xmas, dental ?

Have you contacted a financial adviser to see if you can remortgage?

Just thinking out loud 'cause I am no expert
    Panda on My Shoulder

If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it
    :rotfl:
  • oh yes sorry,, well no internet, (workonly), tv license is paid until jan 08 (gulp), birthdays all friends etc are skint so we agree not to buy each other!! only been in this situation for last six months though so on a very steep learning curve! with xmas looming I am missing payments this month (I know its bad but no other way to buy presents) and Im planning to make up in jan with xtra money from the pub (Im working all xmas) and money off parents/family etc, my mate does my hair for nothing (she is a star) and I scrape by with dental.

all bad i know :( Ive spoke to several people on the phone about re-mortaggaing, various companys etc none can help due to my debt and my income they all say!

    thanks for replying :)
  • Hi, and welcome to this wonderful forum:hello:.
I've just had a very brief glance at your post, but is there any chance you could get a lodger:confused:. Are you getting single persons discount on your council tax, and can you see if they will accept payment over 12 instead of 10months. I have to say, your food bill looks good, though.
P.S can you state your monthly net income.

  • Hi and thanks for the welcome! this forum is inspirational definately and everyone seems to have plans!

I have had a lodger, he had to go (seriously lodger from hell) who paid 200 quid a month and ended up costing me 235 in fuel etc, was a nightmare, I am still looking but am obviously very cautious after the last one! he smelled as well ewwwww! must be a girl methinks this time around.
i am getting single persons discount i will ask them about 12 months thank you for the idea, I bring home 880 per month and 50 per week I pay out all my main wages and live off the pub job.

lol food bill is impressive I know I live on noodles and porridge! I have gone from a size 16 to a size 12 though so have revenge on ex boyfriend (insert evil laugh) and can maybe attract a new one one day soon ha! :T

    Hi monkey

Hope you're having more than just noodles and porridge. That was something i was warned about as a poor student - malnutrition. Working as hard as you seem to, you need your health.

Not paying anything towards some of the debts is a big no no. Get some experts in - they will probably recommend a DMP. These are the free charities we usually suggest.

  • HI Monkey,
Havent got anything much more to add to all the good advice you have already received. Except that as your Car Tax and Insurance are due in Jan perhaps you could ask your Parents, siblings etc; to contribute towards them. As a Mum I would prefer to do that for DS or DD if they were struggling. Also I know the weight loss is great but you need to make sure you are eating a little better.Try making a huge saucepan of home made soup lasts a couple of days (gets better as the days go on!LOL) cheap and nutrious.

Good Luck and Keep us posted.

  • Congrats on the weight-loss, now for the soa! :)

Gas and Electric seem high for someone living alone - We are a family of four and our Gas and Elec bill is £45pm combined - can you shop around and make some additional savings?? It may be only £15 or £20 pm but it all counts......Also, get another lodger in asap (a trustworthy one if poss)

    HTH - all the best

Also being on here the people here are always there and will give you the support you need and never judge

  • BTW saw Martin on Lorraine Kelly this morning and he was stressing that now is a very very good time to switch energy suppliers to get a better deal. Might be worth doing that.
He was shocked to find out that Lorraine had never switched and has made her promise to look into it before his next apperance next Thurs

  • oh gosh, firstly thanks to everyone for all advice/support, I am a bit blonde today though what does SOA mean? lol
I am looking for another lodger but bless them they will thoroughly vetted this time!!
my gas and electric are on card meters (I dont trust bills and I think its the only way I pay them!) I have been on uswitch and they have no standing charges apparently?
I will look into it again though thanks.
As for the food i am branching out into tuna pasta at the weekend and I will try the soup idea! lol perfect for 2am pub shifts methinks
I would ask my parents for help but I borrowed £500 off them when I moved home (I had to pay out £1500 to get the tenants out of my house etc which is how this all started, never again will I leave my house!) which they are now charging me interest on and are not too happy about, not to be rude I love my parents but they are sort that are loaded and very tight! big no no there unfortunately,
However I have two cases of bank charges in for £4000 each if this bl^*&^*(&y OFT test case would get a shift on my problems could be solved!! fingers crossed ay :rotfl:
